This light and fresh Blood Orange Wine Spritzer is the perfect cocktail for spring and summer. It's loaded with fresh blood orange juice and made lighter with club soda.
Are you seeing signs of Spring where you live?
I am seeing it here and it brings me joy. My kids even seem happier. Physical activity outside and some good vitamin D can do wonders for a body.
Here in DC I am hearing the snow melting. It's so loud sometimes pouring off my roof and around my house that it sounds like I live beside a river. Yesterday there was a woodpecker in my backyard and we can hear birds singing. I found tulips at Whole Foods = joy!
I decided to celebrate the dawn of Spring with a summery Blood Orange Wine Spritzer. I have been dying to make this but haven't seen blood oranges until now.
Blood oranges are in season from December to May so get them before they are gone. They are full of antioxidants, vitamin C and fiber. They make a great sweet snack at only 80 calories and 3 grams of fiber. Add to greek yogurt, kale smoothies, oatmeal or green salads.
This sparkling wine spritzer is like a sangria for one. It could easily be made in a pitcher for girl's wine night. Use any oranges that are in season like Cara Caras or Tangelos. Add fresh mint, limes or lemon. Rim the glass with turbinado sugar for an extra fancy touch.
What Type of Wine Do I Use for a Spritzer?
I always use a Sauvignon Blanc or a Pinot Grigio wine. I prefer these because of their fruity flavor and I am not a fan of Chardonnay. You can play around with ones you like but I love Santa Margarita Pinot Grigio.
Enjoy this light and refreshing treat while listening to the sweet sounds of Spring.
Blood Orange Wine Spritzer
Ingredients
- Ice
- ½ cup blood orange juice
- ½ cup White wine I used Sauvignon Blanc
- ¼ cup Club soda
Instructions
- Fill a glass half full with ice.
- Add the juice of half a blood orange. I like the pulpy parts so I don't strain it.
- Add white wine to half full.
- Top with a splash of club soda and garnish with orange slices.

This looks and sounds so good - here in Belgium I can usually only find blood oranges in January, so I'm crazy jealous that you can get them December through May! Then again, we'll move back to DC at some point, so maybe I'll just focus on how wonderful it will be to have them for so long soon! 🙂

We've been getting blood oranges regularly in the supermarkets for the past few years and it's wonderful! I can never resist making a cocktail or three with them. This spritzer looks very refreshing, even if it is still January right now. 🙂
